It Happened

My mom mentioned to me “Y vamos a comprar pan frances?” AWWW HEEELLL NAH! As much as whatever she is thinking about cooking for tonight, which more than likely will be delicious and require a delicious warm toasty french roll type bread thang I refuse to do this one thing. Why you ask?

Time it takes to get a dozen bolillos (bread) on a normal day: 15 minutes

Time it takes to get a dozen bolillos right now with everybody in the damn hood making tamales or pavo: At least 2 hours

I refuse to put myself through that today. No way mom. Ay tenemos tortillas.

Florida, Will You Be My Valentine?

I just booked my flight for Florida (FINALLY!) for February 11-15th. I was worried so much about waiting to see if my dad was going to join me on this trip (he’s not btw, =( bummer) and booking the flight asap to spend the least possible skrill that I didn’t realize what dates it fell on. So i’ll be in Florida for Valentine’s Day doing two horrible things: 1) Not being with my beautiful crazy woman here in L.A. AND 2) cockblocking my brother and his wife. Good going Alex. I’m gonna have to make it up to both parties. Maybe it can be my first “Tio Alex Babysits Baby Nic” night? I’ll also have to plan something extra special for my woman just don’t know if I should before or after.

Bedouin Soundclash - New Year’s Day/Guns of Brixton (live) This is probably my favorite band on the label. They’re soooooo good live. Serious. They can never seem to get around to the states much but when they do i’m there right in front. I heard they have a few lineup changes and added a horn section to the band so i’m super excited to see what new stuff they drop on us in 2009.

Barbara Mason - Yes, I’m Ready

There were sooo many great singers back in the soul/r&b era: Smokey, Ray, Wilson, Marvin, etc. But it was the voice of a woman that hit it right on the money for me. Absolutely one of my favorites.

Saves The Day - Don’t Know Why

Yeah his voice is a bit whiny but it’s ok to like a whiny voiced band or two not like all the damn bands on the Vans Warped Tour compilations. Oh shit, wait a minute, we put those records out. Oh well… “I kud say some’in, dat’s my cousin, I ku say some’in.”

- Saves the Day, “This Is Not An Exit”

Just sail belly up to the clouds, the rocks scraping your back

to breathe in the air will be the only thing that you have.

and your love will be long nights with pockets of moonlight

spotlighting you as you drift; the actor in this play.

and you walk across the stage, take a bow, hear the applause;

and as the curtain falls, just know you did it all the best that you knew how.

you can hear them cheering now.

so just smile and show your teeth, cause you know you lived it well.

Stay What You Are. One of the best albums EVER.
