Go Lakers!

She Had Me At “Dagger 3pt shot!”

I’ve been watching entirely WAY too much basketball lately. It’s not just the Playoffs I’m stuck on but it’s pretty much been any and all games I could possibly watch since the season started. Now with the Playoffs in full effect, I rarely ever miss a game or at least a good portion of each one. Yes, of EACH game. My wife, bless her patient heart, has been either watching alongside me or just kind of doing her thing as she has the game audio in the background.

The other day I had to miss the Lakers vs. Nuggets Game 4 because I had put off buying groceries so I depended on my trusty ol’ ESPN app to keep me updated on the game. It was working fine until, maybe because I was just checking it too much, it stalled on me. The only remedy was to restart my phone but sometimes I’m too lazy too even do that. I was like, “It ain’t that damn serious, Alex!” It IS that serious. Anyways, out of nowhere and without requesting them at precisely the exact time my app was trippin’, I start getting texts from Lissette.

The title of this post says it all.

Her birthday is this Friday. I hope she enjoys what I have planned and I hope what I have planned comes through like her texts did.

I know, I know… too many pictures of Kenny, right? It’s just that I forgot to mention that Kenny turned 2 months old yesterday.
Also, we’ve discovered his grandma’s and aunt’s kryptonite - Kenny wearing polo shirts and shorts. They absolutely melt when they see him wearing that. Looks like Lissette and I need to go do some baby clothes shopping so we start building up a lengthy babysitter volunteers list.
Happy 2 Months to my son, El Kennito!

My wife took this picture of Kenny. It’s impossible not to be in love with this kid.

Kenny Turns 1 Month Today

Kenneth turns 1 whole month old today and he’s already hosting his very first gun show. What an amazing first month!

He was celebrating this morning by blowing confetti out of his butt…minus the confetti.

His momma is baking him cupcakes that daddy is probably going to eat a lot of.

Happy 1 Month to our little, Kiwi’ed!

El Kennito will be 2 weeks old on Tuesday. He loves hanging out with his momma. Check out his kung-fu grip on her finger.
Lissette has managed to make me fall in love with her all over again as I see her in a new light as Kenny’s mom.

Baby spam. Can’t stop, won’t stop. My two favorite people in the world. I’m a pretty lucky guy.

We’ve brought our son home. After 2 full days in the hospital, I took the dreaded first drive home with a “baby on board.” It wasn’t that nerve wrecking but let’s just say if I were to ever get pulled over again, it would be cause I’m driving TOO slow.
It’s great to be on our own now with little Kenneth. I stare at him while he sleeps a lot. I wanna kiss his lil’ fo’head every chance I get. When I leave him for 30 minutes, it feels like hours. I see how Lissette handles him, feeds him, changes him and I can’t help but smile to know that those two people who I love more than anybody else in the world is MY family. It’s a great feeling.
Just a little warning, there’s gonna be A LOT of baby pictures on my blog now. You can choose to unfollow me now but then you’ll just be a jerk, right?

Hey, Tumblr! I want you to meet my son Kenneth.

I’m officially a parent. He’s here a month earlier than projected but something tells me that he really knew how much mom and dad already wanted to finally see him. We are in love with him. Our families are happy. Most importantly, he looks like me.

“Tulips for Two-Beats”
In my lifetime and of all the people I’ve come across, there’s never been someone more deserving to receive flowers from me (other than my mother) than my wife Lissette. Her favorite flowers are tulips. My mother had me go pick up the tulips on the left for Lissette along with a card for a “Mother-To-Be.” The ones on the right are from me. We’ve been wanting to add some flowers/plants to the apartment since we’ve moved in and it only seems fitting the first ones be these two bouquets. This is our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple. Next year, her card with include scribbles from baby Kenneth.
I call this picture “Tulips for Two Beats.” Two Beats is Lissette’s temporary DJ name since she’s got two heartbeats, hers and the baby’s.

She Compliments Me

There are certain things that people say to you that stick. They either make you feel good or bad but you remember them forever.

Back in the MySpace era, Lissette and I “found” each other again and started communicating back and forth. I became somewhat of a stalker of her page as I couldn’t believe that I was finally once again in contact with the one crush that had outlived any and all relationships I had had up until then. All my friends knew about her. They knew she’s the one girl I always wish I could be with.

I used to blog sometimes on MySpace to kind of express personal things that I didn’t mind sharing  with others. I did it for no one but myself but you have to admit when someone reads personal things of yours and you know they took the time to read it and compliment you on it, it feels good. You don’t need an audience but sometimes it’s nice to have one.

Anyways, after a post I did about my Grandmother I got a message from Lissette that I saved in an email after all these years. I saved it because at that time, it was one of the biggest compliments I had ever received in my life and for some reason, for as short as it was, I knew that it was 100% sincere. It made me feel amazing… even more so because it was HER. The compliment was: “You have a beautiful soul…” That’s it. Short and sweet. If that compliment was a song, it would be like Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing”: too short that you want more but so good that it was just perfect. I must have read that line like 50 times before I decided it was time to log out. That was dated sometime around November 15, 2005. While I may not remember that date, I do remember how that made me feel.

In our time together, Lissette has paid me many compliments. Men might try to deny it, but it feels nice to hear your lady say that you look “handsome” despite how nappy headed you may feel.

Today, February 3rd 2012, she will give me the biggest compliment of all. After today, Lissette is taking my last name. This Friday, we become a married couple!

Love you, Nappy’ed!

It’s The Simple Things

Who knew that having our own apartment would mean getting used to filling ice trays again. Been so used to leaning a cup against a lever and ice coming out without any effort. But I’m extremely grateful because it’s ours. They’re our ice trays I just filled a minute ago as I listen to Iron & Wine in our living room as she and the baby take a nap on our bed. All these years it’s been me. I like “ours” better.

Regalitos De Ositos

My gift for Lissette (Momma Bear) from me (Poppa Bear) (with a little help from the baby, we discussed it while she slept). She’s been on a caramel candy binge so I “forced” myself to eat like 6 of them so I can quilt together some fancy candy wrapper gift wrap.

It was only natural that her gift include a pendant of a little Osito to represent our baby bear that will make his debut in March 2012.

In return, I’m getting some delicious tamales for Christmas. Next year, we’re gonna have to make Gerber flavored tamales. Mmmm.

A big thanks to Kirsten Nunez for her great work on the bear pendant and getting it to me on time. I highly recommend her if you’re interested in some customized jewelry.

Merry Christmas, Everyone!
