2Pac - How Do You Want It

Found out earlier that I’m not working on Monday. I’m just in a great mood. This song should contribute to YOU being in a great mood. Turn it up.

Enemy Of The State / Psycho Realm / A War Story

Psycho Realm - “Enemy of the State”

We dominate but feel the pain from bullets my carnales take
Out of state soldiers join us to form a conglomerate
It’s out of hate oppressed revolt from feeling that they gotta take
All the weight so we go to war to find another way
Intercept opposite forces entering our sick vicinity
It’s killing me how wars that make no sense last an infinity
It’s silly shit how a city gets mentally unfit
But really it gets worse when buildings set the scene for murders script
I know you heard of this crisis and what the price is
High stress amplifies the need for all your vices
But steer clear cause we’re here in fear they’re
Taking over everything and so we fight the war years
Fierce weapons speak for each side through open forum skies
Some die when bullets pierce the skin exploding inside
We provide a dream for our team look past the war scene
Dethrone the king gain control reign supreme
Aim high for your street regime
Look for unseen enemies hiding in the smoke screen

This is how I ended my SxSw experience.Video by me.

The majority of my time at SxSw was spent seeing our bands from SideOneDummy perform. We saw Fake Problems (5 times), Title Fight, The Sounds, Jesse Malin and Audra Mae. The only other bands that I saw that was not work related was Cheap Girls (not my thing) and the Moondoggies (they were great but I had to pay to get in, kind of a bum out for such short sets). Other than that, despite having had so many things on my radar, I didn’t catch tons of the music that people were raving about the whole weekend. It was cool though, I got to hang with people I work with and people that I work on projects with and finally put a face to emails.

Sometime around Saturday early evening, one of our interns (Chris) told us he was going to be playing drums for a hip hop act named Kenan Bell which was a Respect The West Showcase in which Warren G was going to perform. We didn’t have badges or wristbands but he told us he might be able to sneak us in the back alley door. We hesitated but after not having much going on we gave in. Thomas, Johnny B and I headed down there and we got hooked up. Wristbands, top deck, hanging with each other and Chris while watching/listening to some West Coast rap and some interesting acts as well. Warren G took his sweet time coming out, it wasn’t till 1am that he popped out with his entourage of Dogg Pound rappers wearing “RIP Nate Dogg” shirts. The rumor was that Snoop was the special guest and good thing he was, can you imagine the song above performed without it? SxSw ended on a rad show. I even got in the mood of the evening and took some hits off of Thomas’ sticky icky and swore that I “time traveled.” I won’t get into much of that. But we was tipsy, feeling gangsta, and despite being in Austin, I swear I felt like I was in L.A. for this show.

Tell me you didn’t know Kurupt’s part on this song by heart when you were younger? No? Just me? Ok…nevermind.

Spottieottiedogaliscious1 / Outkast / Aquemini

Outkast - Spottieottiedopaliscious

Your sweet Friday jam. Play it loud. Make your shoulders vibe to the sound of them horns.

When I first met my Spottieottiedopaliscious Angel
I can remember that damn thing like yesterday
The way she moved reminded me of a Brown Stallion
horse with skates on smooth like a hot comb
on nappy ass hair
I walked up on her & was almost paralyzed
her neck was smelling sweeter
than a plate of yams with extra syrup
eyes beaming like four karats apiece just blindin’ a nigga
felt like I chiefed a whole O of that Presidential
My heart was beating so damn fast
never knowing this moment would bring another
life into this world

Shallow Days / Blackalicious / Nia

Blackalicious - Shallow Days

But music does reflect life
And kids look up to what you’re portraying
And mimic what you act like
It’s time for a new day
An era in rap, conscious styles,
Makin’ them aware of the happenings
But their ears seem more steered towards
Self-annihilation so then they might laugh
And write this off, like I’m out here just
Blowing wind, maybe label us soft or unreal,
Something they just can’t feel, while they yell
“murder murder murder, kill kill kill”

I just keep movin’ on (moving on …)
I just keep movin’ on (moving on …)

Now Or Never / The Roots / How I Got Over (Explicit)

The Roots - Now or Never

I’m thankful for music.

Everything’s changing around me
and I want to change too
It’s one thing I know
It ain’t cool being no fool
I feel different today
I don’t know what else to say
But Imma get my shit together
It’s now or never

The Problem Is... / Murs & 9th Wonder / Fornever

Murs & 9th Wonder - The Problem Is…

What’s next from the West like I’m first in line
From the coast that’s known for the surf and shine
Write rhymes like I’m trying to save the earth in time
Before my girl get big and give birth to mine
I encourage you to live, put the worst behind
Never worry about the past, it ain’t worth your time
